2021 Toyota Corolla vs 2021 Hyundai Elantra: two options that deserve consideration
February 26 2021,
When we're looking for a spacious, fuel-efficient, fun to drive and safe car at an affordable price, the Toyota Corolla has always been a top car. Which is why the Corolla is consistently one of the most popular cars in its class and around the world. The new Corolla redesigned for 2020 retains everything fans love about the Corolla while emphasizing its qualities.
Both cars offer spacious and comfortable interiors for up to five passengers and similarly sized trunk spaces, but the Corolla with its standard 7-inch (up from 5-inch) touchscreen and Apple CarPlay, among other amenities, outperforms the Elantra in terms of technology.
Toyota also stands out in terms of safety with an impressive range of standard technologies that include adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and the lane departure detection system with automatic steering.
Plus, when it comes to driving these compact cars, Toyota wants to make sure there is a Corolla for all needs. Unlike the Hyundai Elantra which can only be powered by a 147 horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, the Corolla can be ordered with a 139-horsepower 1.8-liter engine or a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that delivers 169 horsepower. Of note, the more powerful 2.0-liter Corolla uses the same amount of fuel as the Hyundai when both are equipped with optional automatic transmissions. We are therefore entitled to more power with better fuel economy.
If fuel efficiency is a priority, look no further than the Corolla Hybrid. Thanks to the 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the hybrid consumes on average as little as 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway.
