2021 Toyota Highlander: Special in many ways

The Toyota Highlander was redesigned last year in honor of its 20th anniversary. This year, it returns unchanged, but a new version is added to the offering to make it even more complete than ever.

In fact, looking at the Highlander family of products, it's hard to imagine a mid-size SUV offering so much. In fact, there isn't. The Highlander shines by offering its owners versatility, interior space, comfort, safety, and an impressive design.

This is due to a few facts, but mostly to the hybrid offering that defines this model. Of the 10 versions on the menu, 4 are partially electrified. These take advantage of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which, thanks to the work of two electric units, offers an output of 243 horsepower and a torque of 263 lb-ft. With the continuously variable transmission mated to it, it is able to promise incredible fuel consumption ratings for this type of vehicle, i.e. 6.6 liters per 100 kilometers in the city, 6.8 liters for driving on the highway. No other mid-size SUV can offer such an impressive fuel economy rating.

For those looking for a model with a more traditional configuration, the Highlander is also available with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is good for 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. Six versions are in the catalog, including the base L model. The others benefit from all-wheel drive. Of the lot, we find the new XSE variant which focuses on sportiness. This is true in terms of style, but also structure, while this version benefits from a more sporty suspension and 20-inch wheels.

And with all Highlanders, you find generous equipment. All models offer, for example, Apple CarPlay apps, LED headlights, push-button start and keyless entry.

Finally, and as an added bonus, the Highlander’s reliability rating is second to none in the segment which helps improve resale value and lowers cost of ownership.
