Unveiling the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: An Off-Road Legend Reborn
August 02 2023,
After a three-decade hiatus, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser marks a grand re-entry into the Canadian market. Honouring its heritage as a robust off-roader, this next-generation model remains loyal to its iconic pedigree.
Toyota's longest-running nameplate has seen its evolution from the 40 Series two-door models to the luxurious 80 Series. The latter was the last generation to grace Canadian roads, demonstrating Land Cruiser's strength and premium features. With its 2024 model, the Land Cruiser re-emerges at a more accessible price, primed to welcome a wider range of customers into the fold of off-road adventuring.
Toyota's new Land Cruiser sits on the global TNGA-F truck platform. This new design, combined with rigorous testing, ensures the vehicle is engineered to withstand the harshest conditions. The heart of the 2024 Land Cruiser is the i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain that provides a whopping 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. This model is narrower and shorter than the preceding 200 Series, enhancing its agility on trails and encompassing Toyota's latest off-road technology.
The First Edition grade, limited to the first 5,000 units, introduces two new two-tone paint colours and additional off-road equipment. The 2024 Land Cruiser will be constructed in Toyota's Tahara and Hino plants in Japan, with its arrival in Canada slated for Spring 2024.
"The new Land Cruiser's heritage-inspired design is a nod to Toyota's long history of building reliable, durable trucks able to conquer the most severe driving conditions," said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc.
Toyota's new 2024 Land Cruiser features a design emphasizing form and function. Signature features such as the iconic round LED headlights, "TOYOTA" heritage grille, and a squared body profile hearken back to the Land Cruisers of old. A shorter front overhang and a repositioned A-pillar enhance the vehicle's outward visibility and improve approach angles on trails.
Toyota pairs its standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with a full-time four-wheel-drive system, a centre locking differential, and a two-speed transfer case. An electronic rear differential lock also comes standard, ensuring equal power distribution to the rear wheels for improved traction control on tough terrain.
The Land Cruiser redefines off-road capability. It features an approach angle up to 31.0 degrees and a maximum departure to 22.0 degrees, and a breakover angle reaching 25.0 degrees. Land Cruiser customers can also add rock rails and full-coverage high-strength steel skid plates for added off-road protection.
The 2024 Land Cruiser provides various connectivity and convenience features. An 8.0-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility graces the Land Cruiser 1958 models, with Land Cruiser grades featuring a larger 12.3-inch screen. This new multimedia system supports Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, ensuring that your Cruiser stays up-to-date.
With its comeback to the Canadian market, the Toyota Land Cruiser continues its legacy as a dependable, reliable, and capable off-road icon. Its rugged design and powerful hybrid powertrain make it a compelling choice for adventure seekers. It's not merely a vehicle; it's a testament to Toyota's core values and its commitment to quality and durability. It is time for Canadians to create their own legendary Land Cruiser stories.
